'PROFILER' BRET CLAIMS HE ISN'T HORRIBLE

I am not a horrible person. I am working on this case alongside the profilers and reviewers

Separated at birth

  1. Not horrible? What about this, about Marlene Dietrich's daughter?

Maria Riva--unaffectionately known amongst some of Marlene's friends, myself included, as "Maria Rivachefolle", published a rather nasty book about her mother. I cannot comment on Maria's childhood, because I was not there. Were I able to go back in time, I would have suggested to Marlene to drown her at birth.

  2. So, when did he gain the qualifications needed to be a real profiler in the UK?

UK police forces use offender profilers on a Home Office database. The profilers – forensic psychologists - have to be chartered members of the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health Professions Council.

He really should stick to writing gossip about dead film stars.

  3. This isn't Thug after a night on the White Lightning, this is the haters' new pin-up boy to a critic:

You stupid f*cking wall-eyed no-faced tw*t. I was on the same programme as kd lang--so your friend, who does not exist, is just as gormless as you are. Here's keeping my fingers crossed that you very quickly die of a painful disease--and that you and I never come face to face. Go F@ your South African friend--or that crusty, smelly old bitch who sells ice-cream and f*cks up every song she sings. My "career" as you call it is doing very nicely, and no amount of bad-mouthing from a wall-eyed toad like you will make any difference.

The wit! The cutting satire! The mastery of the English language!

Oscar Wilde, eat your heart out!

PS - there weren't *** in the orginal.

  4. I wonder why someone as flamboyant as David Bret joined Haverns, which is closely associated with the homophobic fundamentalist Bennett?

  5. He doesn't seem to be much of an author...

1.0 out of 5 stars SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!, Jan 8 2004
By Palmer Woodrow "P Woodrow II" (Hollywood , CA United States)

This review is from: Errol Flynn (Hardcover)
This David Bret should be a fiction Author. This was the biggest waste of money. Where were the wive's interveiws, old studio execs and his children when this pile of rubbish was being written? It is really easy to write of man who is gone over 40 years and make up as you go along. I worked at Warner Bros. for years and have followed Flynn's life to great extent. This garbage should have been pulled from the shelves long ago!!!!

This review is from: Tallulah Bankhead: A Scandalous Life (Paperback)
After reading this book, I can assure you that the definitive biography of Tallulah Bankhead has yet to be written. The reader suffers through 250+ pages of garbled prose, which revels in the salacious details of Ms. Bankhead's life, only to find that he/she knows no more about the PERSON who was Tallulah than at the onset of the book. Furthermore, though Mr. Bret claims to have extensively researched his subject, the book conveys little firsthand knowledge of Tallulah or the people she knew. Most quotations in the book stem not from interviews, but from secondhand sources. The result is a laughingly bad work, on a par with any supermarket tabloid. Therefore, I beg you to save your money and buy the National Enquirer.

Sounds like he will fit in perfectly at Bennett's home roost, and his flamboyance will brighten it up no end.

    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Clark Gable: Tormented Star (Paperback)
I have read two chapters of this book and honestly might have to admit defeat - what a load of rubbish. Bret seems to view and analyse every event of Gable's life through the prism of his alleged bisexuality (or homosexuality, or prostitution depending on what paragraph you're on) without offering any tangible evidence to support his wild claims.

There is actually an early recognition by Brett that the actors he mentions are 'dead and gone (and no longer able to sue)' which seems to be the whole premise on which this tawdry biography is based - so long as his assertions are prefixed with 'probablys' and 'possiblys' - who is around to complain?

It's not just even the tabloid approach to his journalism that riles, but the fact that this just isn't written well. Bret's distain for Gable - both the man and his work, permeates every page which irritates and disappoints in equal measure. Bret's bibliogrpahy listed at the back of the book isn't more than a couple of pages - which proves how much dedicated research went into this fairytale read...

I feel suckered into parting with my cash - please all buy a different biography because this is cheap, sensationalised trash.

Not surprised; there's nothing flamboyant about Clark Gable....
